Probably one of this season’s most important exhibitions. Through it, the Reina Sofía Art Museum contributes to the raft of celebrations being held to mark the 75th anniversary of the painting of Guernica by Picasso.

Over 400 works, distributed over two floors and a surface area of more than 2,000 m2, for contemplating creations that had never even been seen before in Spain. Picasso, Mondrian, Miró, Man Ray, Kandinsky, Joaquín Torres-García, Mario Sironi, Robert Delaunay and Wassily, among others.

Encounters with the 1930s, whose book-catalogue has been printed by Artes Gráficas Palermo, helps us to understand the famous painting by Picasso, who was born in Malaga, contextualising it, bringing us closer not only to the Spanish Republic but also to the Spanish Civil War and the ensuing Exile. Realism and surrealism come together with the abstract visions of artists who supported those in power and others that confronted them.

The exhibition runs from 2 October to 7 January at this art museum in Madrid.
